Bare Cards, a pioneering greeting cards concept developed to ‘push the envelope’ is starting to capture the imagination of the UK scene having found success among the independent gift and greetings retail landscape.
A concept developed by greetings industry stalwart, Derren Seal and his wife Ceri, Bare Cards act to eliminate waste by ditching single-use envelopes in favour of its own sealed ‘envelope’ designed into the card itself.
Since its rebrand in 2023, Bare Cards has captured the imagination of the UK greetings retail space and the demand for sustainable solutions to issues around waste to such a degree, the start-up has now increased its offering to 250 designs.
While its ‘humour’ cards continue to be a best-seller for the team, the duo have supplemented the collection with new male and female relative, occasion, and ‘from the cat/dog’ designs. The team has also just launched two new children’s ranges – Little Heroes and Goth Girl.
Bare Cards have found particular success to date at various UK craft markets and currently enjoy partnerships across the independent retail sector, including with stockists Wild Cardz Wincanton, Helen’s Wishes Dursey, Paperchain Romsey, and Cotswold Cards and Gifts Moreton-in-Marsh.
“We have been blown away by the positive feedback we’ve received about the Bare Cards concept,” said Ceri Seal, co-founder of Bare Cards. “When people see and understand the product, they really are on board with what we’re trying to bring to the industry – a more sustainable solution to envelopes and cello-wrap.”
The greetings industry’s issue with envelope waste has, to date, been inestimable with many publishers and retailers unable to keep an accurate record of the number of envelopes lost or damaged in the journey to the customer’s hands.
Spotting the opportunity to address the crisis, Derren and Ceri set out to develop and introduce a pioneering design concept that eliminated the need for envelopes by introducing an extra sheet to a card’s design that can be wrapped around its front and sealed with space for an address to be written and stamp to be included. Bare Cards will now, for the first time, be bringing the concept to PG Live 2024 where the team will showcase a selection of the range at stand 730.
